We've developed this rating system to allow you to compare the effectiveness of one kind of outerwear to another. Activity level, exposure time, wind, humidity, gender, age and body metabolism among other factors will affect your Warmth Rating preferences.

Example
Our rating assumes an average man wearing underwear, heavy socks, jeans, a T-shirt, a flannel shirt, gloves and a hat. The addition of outerwear with a Warmth Rating of +10°F would keep him comfortable at 10°F during light to moderate activity.
